Women's Soccer Team Hopes to Maintain Success in 2003

With four Mid-American Conference tournament appearances in the last four years, the women's soccer team here at UB is one of the university's most successful programs.

The Bulls, who play their home games at RAC field, finished last season with a 7-8-5 overall record, including a 5-5-2 record in the MAC. That mark was good enough to earn the Bulls a tournament match against Bowling Green. The Bulls dropped that game, one of the year's most exciting, 2-1 in double overtime.

Next season the Bulls return a strong core of players and will look to improve on the strides they made last year. Having lost only four seniors, UB returns leading scorer Natalia Crofut and their top defender, Devon Russell. Crofut finished the season with five goals and two assists as a freshman and was named the team's top newcomer.

Russell is one of the premier defenders in the MAC. She has been named to the All-MAC and All-Region teams for the past two years. Last season she scored two goals and anchored the team in the defensive end.

The Bulls will open next season on August 29 at the Theadora Cup Tournament against host Minnesota. The team's first home game will take place at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 3, against Niagara University.
