Wrestling

Two UB wrestlers received prestigious honors on Tuesday. Intermat Wrestling, with its weekly wrestling rankings, put junior Garrett Bontempo at No. 20 in their top 20 rankings for the week. He is the first Bulls' wrestler to be named to the top 20 this season. Bontempo has a 10-2 record in duals matches and is 28-6 overall. He has recorded 106 takedowns in his career at UB, placing him in second all time at the school.

Labe Black also earned recognition in being named the MAC Wrestler of the Week. In UB's 19-12 loss to Central Michigan, Black was able to defeat the then-10th ranked David Bolyard by a score of 6-4. Black bettered his record to 9-3 in dual meets when he scored a takedown in the final 10 seconds of the match, sealing the win for himself.

Women's Swimming

The UB women's swimming team lost a pair of MAC meets this past weekend as they were dominated by Eastern Michigan and Miami of Ohio, two of the current heavyweights in the MAC this year.

Eastern Michigan was able to soundly defeat the Bulls (2-6 MAC, 4-7) by a score of 226-72, while Miami (Ohio) also drilled Buffalo, winning by a score of 212-85.

UB's Jennefer Brankovsky was the only Bull to post a victory on the day when she won the 200 freestyle by turning in a 1:55.09 run to barely eke out the RedHawks' Jackie Hiltman by eight-tenths of a second. Brankovsky's time was a season best.

Men's Tennis

The University at Buffalo men's tennis team completed the Cornell Duals with a 2-2 record for the four-match weekend. After falling to Cornell on Friday, UB knocked off Bucknell, 6-1, and Villanova, 5-2, in Saturday's action, but fell to St. John's, 5-2, to complete the weekend. For the season, the Bulls are 5-4 in dual meets.

UB plays next on Feb. 19 when they host Rochester at 4 p.m.
