I would like to express the disappointment I felt when I saw in the Jan. 17 issue of The Spectrum your choice of creating a storyline, "An Experiment in Romance," that resembles a bad middle school rendition of a reality TV show. The Spectrum, I would like to point out, is the only source of printed news on campus that is available to the entire student body. With such a responsibility of educating the students of UB on current issues, I am appalled that you would devote time, space and brainpower to such a childish and unprofessional endeavor. As the alma mater of media correspondent Wolf Blitzer, I would hope that we would have more pride in our student-run newspaper that to degrade it with such arbitrary sensationalism.
There are many events both locally and nationally that I feel are worth more the attention in the campus newspaper than the dating habits of two random students. Wars are brewing, primaries are approaching, the national economy is bad, and we are wasting space on meaningless drivel. I, for one, as a UB student, wish that you would better consider your choices of articles that you publish with my student fees. Please keep the image of our newspaper untarnished by the mediocre fads of the media today and fulfill the needs of the student body by supplying us with information that is pertinent to our daily lives.
