Bowling Green (9-6-2 overall, 6-3-1 MAC) found themselves in an early hole but came out on top in the end with a 2-1 overtime win over the UB women's soccer team Sunday.
The Bulls (4-7-5 overall, 3-5-2 MAC) came out and showed outstanding hustle and outplayed the opponent in the first half. Nicole Olszewski scored at the 23-minute mark on a penalty kick and gave UB the 1-0 lead. The Bulls put on a sparkling defensive performance in the first half allowing only one shot on goal.
At the 70:08 mark in the second half, a defensive error by the Bulls lead to a goal off the head of Bowling Green's Britt Anderson.
In overtime it took Bowling Green only two minutes to score the winning goal as Kristy Coppes hit Samantha Meister in stride with a properly placed header that allowed Meister to streak down the field and score the game winning goal.
The rain never stopped but Toledo and UB had to after two overtimes failed to settle things and the teams played to a 1-1 draw Friday.
Defense dominated in the first half as the two teams went into halftime scoreless at 0-0. There were a few scoring chances by both teams, but no one could capitalize.
In the second half, Rockets' attacker Melissa Lesage put her team on the board with the first goal of the game at 52:39 when she received a pass from midfielder Robin Davidson. The goal was her ninth of the season. Soon thereafter the Bulls finally tied the score at 1-1 at the 68th minute with header by Emily Russell that was assisted by Natalia Crofut.
The Bulls look to change their luck on the road verses Kent State on Friday at 4 p.m.
