Men's Tennis
Buffalo's Fery Kasiman reached the championship of his flight during the Brown Fall Invitational in Providence, R.I over the weekend, losing in the final to Dartmouth's Neal Bobba 6-1, 6-3. Kasiman competed in the first flight and defeated three others in the championship round.
Sophomore Kick Zieziula went 2-2 over the weekend in the second flight, earning a sixth place finish. Randy Rocchio also went 2-2 for a sixth place finish in the third flight.
Josh Liederman, a sophomore, came out of the losers' bracket to take the consolation championship of the fourth flight. He went 3-1 on the weekend, defeating Harvard's Yusuf Randera-Roos 6-2, 6-4 in the consolation championship. Liederman has Buffalo's best singles record at 6-1.
Another sophomore, Rohan Raiker, also won a consolation championship. Raiker won his in the fifth flight of the meet, going 3-1 over the weekend.
Freshman Joe Popielarczyk went 2-2 in the sixth flight. He and Rhode Island's Dan Romeyn needed 22 games in the third set to decide their fifth place match, which Romeyn won 2-6, 6-3, 12-10.
The women's volleyball junior took MAC East Division Co-Player of the Week honors the conference announced Monday. Matikosh, whose team has won four straight matches, was named to her fourth consecutive all-tournament team at the Western New York Volleyball Invitational over the weekend. She currently leads the MAC in kills per game with 4.31 and is tied for fifth in digs per game with 3.58.
The honor was the first for the Bulls as a team. No UB player has ever won the award in the school's four-plus seasons in the MAC.
Kent State's Danielle Holt was the other co-winner of the award.
