Golden Flashes Trounce UB

What a difference three weeks make. Three weeks ago, the UB women's basketball team went toe-to-toe with the best the MAC has to offer, staying with Kent State for the full 40 minutes before falling 72-71 when they were unable to get off a shot at the buzzer.

Last Wednesday, before 1,015 fans at the Memorial Athletic and Convocation Center in Kent, Ohio, the Bulls (9-17, 4-11 MAC) were out of the game before the fashionably late crowd had filed in. The KSU Golden Flashes (15-10, 11-3 MAC) went on an early 14-2 run to post a quick 26-9 lead over the visitors before cruising to an 81-54 victory and sending Buffalo to their seventh straight defeat.

Turnovers, which have plagued UB all year, killed them Wednesday. They committed 29 overall, which the Golden Flashes converted into 37 points. KSU also dominated the battle in the paint, outscoring Buffalo 32-10 in the category.

"There's really only one stat line that hurt us tonight, and that was turnovers," said UB Head Coach Cheryl Dozier. "Kent State did a good job inside and the match-up with [Csaszar] is one that's a problem for every team in the MAC. They're a good team and when they're healthy, they can beat anyone in the league."

Andrea Csaszar, a 6-foot-6-inch center, dominated inside scoring 22 points.

"I thought Erin Lawrenson had a great shooting game for, and that's definitely a positive that we'll take to get a momentum going in to the MAC tournament," Dozier said.

Erin Lawrenson had a red-hot shooting night, going 6 of 9 from behind the arc to finish with 18 points.

The Bulls will close their regular season Tuesday, Feb. 26, when they host Miami, Ohio in the regular season finale at 7 p.m. at Alumni Arena.
