Women's Tennis Has Strong Showing at Bonaventure Tourney

The University at Buffalo's women's tennis team went to battle this weekend in the Nike Fall Classic at St. Bonaventure University. The competition took place over three days in a six-team flighted competition. The Bulls came away with two third-place singles victories and a second-place finish in doubles.

It was a mix of youthful exuberance and senior experience as freshman standout Michaela Kollarova and senior Jennifer Wong came in second place, losing 8-1 in the finals against Colgate players Marisa Alikpala and Lindsey Sine in flight two of the doubles competition.

In other doubles action, freshmen team Sheri Ugowski and Erica Zielinski defeated Colgate's Ali Grabler and Aga Shahid in an exhilarating 8-7 match. The duo finished 3-0 for the tourney in flight three with a third-place finish.

Kollarova continued to make a name for herself, taking third-place in flight two with a solid defeat of Niagara University's Colleen Willick 6-1, 6-3. Also in singles competition, senior Meaghan Partelow took third in flight five with a rousing 6-4, 6-5 victory over Niagara University's Kendra Daigler.

The team will be in action at the New York State Tournament over the October 5-7 weekend.
