Game 1
UB traveled to Huntington, W.V. Friday to try to add another first place chapter to its MAC standing story.
Marshall's resilient defensive attack gave the tale a different turn, however.
The Thundering Herd was lightning quick against the Bulls, outshooting them 37-7 to tally a 1-0 overtime win.
UB's lone goal hope came from Erin McGarry, who scored with 36 seconds left in the game. McGarry was called off-sides and the goal was nullified, forcing the game into overtime.
The deciding goal was scored 11 minutes into overtime by Marshall's Sarah Grupton.
UB goalie Emily Cox recorded nine saves; Marshall's Ashleigh Woods stopped four shots.
"We just got outplayed on Friday," said Cox. "We did have trouble generating offense, but they beat us to the ball and they just wanted it more."
The loss put the Bulls in a must-win situation heading into their Sunday game against Ohio University, were they to remain at the top of the MAC.
Game 2
Chapter two proved to be a different story for the Bulls, who earned a shutout of their own Sunday against Ohio University.
Andrea Sullivan scored the game's one and only goal at the 9:35 mark.
"The ball was on the wing when Erin crossed it in the air to me and then I was wide open to knock the ball in with my head," said Sullivan.
Freshman Erin Tambs picked up the assist, which was her first career point.
In her first shutout this season, junior Emily Cox stopped 11 shots.
"It felt great to get that shutout. We have been waiting all season for this," said Cox. "We knew we had to step it up from Friday so that's what we did."
Coach Jean A. Tassy said, "Our team knew this was a pivotal game for us and they played like it."
The Bulls will be at second place Central Michigan University on Friday, once again trying to stay atop the MAC.
