The Rutgers Scarlet Knights will be heavy favorites going in to their game with the UB Bulls Thursday night at UB Stadium ... if they can make it to the field.
Given the enormous number of events being put on by the Office of Student Unions and Activities in conjunction with SA and RHA, getting to the field might be more of a challenge than expected.
This year student tickets are valid not for the topmost level of seating, but for seats in the West Grandstand directly behind the opposing team's sideline.
It is expected to be the largest student body to ever attend a UB football game. The Office of Student Unions and Activities is expecting 4,000 students, which would break the old mark of 3,488 set at the Marshall game last season.
General tickets are nearly sold out and, with the high student and walk-up turnouts expected, could lead to a new UB Stadium attendance record.
From 5 to 7:30 p.m. students can enjoy a myriad of activities located on the scoreboard side of the field, mostly on the tennis courts.
The Student Association is sponsoring a mechanical bull riding contest. The student who can stay on the bull the longest will win a free trip to anywhere in the United States.
RHA is sponsoring a "Most Spirited Student" contest. One male and one female winner will be chosen and receive their choice of a Sony Playstation 2 or a $300 mall gift certificate.
There will also be a "New Student Bash," open to all transfer students and freshman. Inside will be a giant game of Twister for which the winner will receive free tuition.
Students with meal plans can participate in the "Fall Feast," a free all-you-can-eat buffet. Others can purchase the buffet for $6.
During the game there will be two hot tubs on the track from which students can view the action. Also, a blind-date dinner for two will be given away in the student section; the winners will receive a private candlelight dinner on the 50-yard line in the stadium.
Slated to round out the night's activities is the "Retro Halftime Spectacular," featuring the Village People who will perform "Macho Man," "YMCA" and "In the Navy." Following the show will be a fireworks display.
