Show me the money

Negotiating salary and benefits when landing a full-time job can be a daunting task. Wednesday at 4 p.m., various industry professionals will speak to UB students about various salary negotiating strategies and show them the proper tools for the start of successful careers. A panel of experts will expose the techniques that are vital in obtaining the best offer possible when landing a job. Joe Kuchera, a human resources representative from Unifrax, Michelle Plesh, a human resources representative from Goodyear Dunlop, Susan Stamp, the V.P.

Tea Time with Mortenson

Greg Mortenson, a philanthropist, world-renowned author and Nobel Peace Prize nominee, will enlighten the Western New York Community about his quest to change and impact the lives of children in Middle-Eastern countries Wednesday night at Alumni Arena. The co-author of Three Cups of Tea, a New York Times best-selling novel and the 2010 UB Reads selection, has been striving to promote peace through books while bringing both education and hope to communities.

Don't try telling this professor that the dog ate your homework. Dr. Mark Frank, a professor in the communication department, has been analyzing lies and nonverbal communication for most of his life.

Crawl to a Free Tuition

What if UB offered an opportunity for a student to win up to $13,000 this weekend? Would that be something you're interested in? UB Fall Crawl: Last Bull Standing gives students the chance to win a semester of tuition, a semester of books, two Lady GaGa tickets, pizza for a semester, and $100 in campus cash. Both undergraduate and graduate students are eligible to participate.

Dancing For A Cause

Students were dancing until dawn to raise funds for the Pennies for Peace organization on Friday night in the Student Union. Free prizes, raffles, cotton candy, popcorn, a kick-line, and dancing occupied the SU lobby on Friday night as students crowded for the fourth annual Stay-Up UB fundraiser. "It is an opportunity for students to give back [to the community] and participate in a philanthropic event, while building UB pride and a new tradition," said Terri Budek, the community engagement coordinator for the Center for Student Leadership & Community Engagement. The dance-marathon fundraiser displayed the heart of UB pride.

UB drinking underage

College is the first time that many students are out of their parents' direct supervision. Parties, bars and alcohol usually serve as icebreakers for those meeting hundreds of new people. However, drinking under the age of 21 is illegal under federal law and is thus not allowed anywhere on campus.
