Around Town: Cinema d?PIsordre

It's been four years since professors Bruce Jackson and Diane Christian have shown a John Cassavetes film through the Buffalo Film Seminars. In the spring of 2010, they showed A Woman Under the Influence (1974), an intense and emotional confrontation with the suffering of a marriage afflicted by mental illness.

Sweeter with time: Atlas album review

When Real Estate came out with their sophomore album Days in 2011, the band's popularity grew. Reviews of the album were positive, and the band gained consciousness among indie lovers. With their new album Atlas, Real Estate builds upon past success, creating the same sound with a bit more vocal punch to it. They have matured from a breakthrough indie band to a concrete, consistent indie band. Atlas is proof of this.

"Meth labs, superheroes and John Hughes "

Though some students may be jetting off toward booze-filled horizons this Spring Break, plenty of the UB population will be wrapped up in the warmth of their comforters, settling in for a long week of doing nothing. A fiery fiesta

Loud chanting reverberated throughout the Center For the Arts. The walls shook as the Indian Student Association (ISA) took over the stage. After using vivacious colors, flawless timing and exquisite dancing to convey the story of the Taj Mahal, ISA won the crowd's approval and took home its second straight first-place award at the 2014 International Fiesta Friday night. The event included 14 clubs' performances, which told tales of love and tragedy - creating an engaging atmosphere for the packed audience - in keeping with the theme of "myths, legends and folklore." The Student Association brought back three alumni guest emcees for the evening - Andrea Ortiz, David Cobb and Harrison Nyguen - who, in the show's introduction, appeared on stage as silhouettes against a red background, the aesthetics demanding the audience's attention. The crowd began rising to its feet; the energy was palpable. But the room's emotion reached its highpoint during the performance from ISA, the most colorful group of the night.

Growing up in Buffalo as the youngest of five boys, Seth Williams spent his childhood surrounded by food - growing in the garden, cooking on the stove and canned into mason jars. "[My siblings] would always fight over the last grab of the potato salad," said Williams, a chef manager at UB.
