As a column writer this past year, I'll be the first to admit that I've written on a lot of rather meaningless topics. I've told you about how I've dabbled in celibacy (still going strong), I've listed cool ways to die, I've advocated cannibalism, and I've even told religion to go to hell.

All over the news this past week has been the story of a little girl who was killed at the paws of a bear in Tennessee. While her death was a tragedy, the way she died was, in my opinion, admirable. It's on my pillow when I wake up. Clumps come off in the shower. They're on my keyboard, in my food, and in my books. My follicles are falling like helicopter seeds from a maple on a brisk autumn day.

Cannibalism - the act of humans eating humans - is taboo and generally frowned upon in civilized societies. While many indigenous cultures have been known to indulge in the delicacies of man meat, we tend to criticize the ritual as "inhumane" without proper contemplation.

As a huge fan of Neil Young and Jonathan Demme, I must admit that I was disappointed halfway through the concert documentary "Heart of Gold."

Clearmotive can see the light. There comes a day for every band to lay down the guitars and ascend into the rock 'n' roll afterlife. After six years, that day for clearmotive has come.

This past weekend, I plunged into a near-frozen Lake Ontario with the elderly, the beer-bellied, and the elderly beer-bellied to join the prestigious ranks of the Polar Bear Club. Despite the fact that my finer parts have yet to un-shrink from the frosty sting of the arctic waters, I have no regrets because I felt more alive that moment than ever in my life.

Over the past few years, gay-themed movies have been coming out of the closet in droves. The first movie that springs to everyone's mind is "Brokeback Mountain," but the truth is that there is currently an influx of similarly themed movies that are making their way into the mainstream in record numbers.

For anyone who knows anything about live music, the UB music fests of late haven't been anything to write home about. Not for rock fans anyway. While SA has done an adequate job, they have the potential and the funds to create something amazing.
