At school, you have little time for things outside your circle of classes, commitments and friends. For those who live on campus, their circle is even smaller – eating mainly in dining halls or the Student Union, interacting predominantly with other students and being completely immersed in UB culture.

As students, we live for the weekend. We push through Monday and Tuesday to skate through Wednesday and Thursday so by the time Friday comes, we’re ready to go. Unfortunately as the semester keeps moving, weekends begin to change. It’s no longer outdoor parties and pumpkin picking – it’s so cold, it’s hard to be outside at all.

UB students spend eight months of the year living in Buffalo, yet many wait until they go home for a fresh haircut or a nice manicure. The comfort of home and the experience they get in their familiar environment is something to be appreciated.

Greg Brock didn’t expect to be at UB a few years ago, much less one of the drum majors for the marching band. He had dropped out of community college and was living in Georgia, working a variety of jobs and just getting by. He wasn’t sure what he wanted to do with his life.

Downtown Buffalo can often go unappreciated by students who have a hard time getting there without a car. Fortunately, there are buses and trains that offer rides back and forth, giving students an opportunity to explore another side of Buffalo. While the weather is still nice, a weekend adventure around the town is easy – as long as you know where to go.
