In light of our nation's ever-growing implementation of standardized testing by the No Child Left Behind Act, the escalating number of SAT errors exposed is even more disturbing. If the SAT can't get it right, what hope is there for the others like the GRE?

Voter apathy is a way of life for many Americans, and past Student Association elections have shown UB's students to be no different than our nation when pulling the voting booth lever. But it would be shameful for that to happen once again this year. The upcoming SA election finds four parties on the ballot, with two parties running legitimate full tickets. This hasn't happened in four years, and our hope is UB students' interest correlates to that shown by the diverse field of those seeking office.

The decision by UB professor emeritus Paul Kurtz to publish the controversial Muhammad cartoons under a "freedom of speech" guise is simply wrong. The cartoons in question have lost any timeliness they once had, and his free speech argument rings hollow in light of the censorship apparent in European society. He is no longer offering anything new to the debate - he's being inflammatory.

The long-sought North Campus health center has come a step closer to reality, with construction for an Ellicott-based office scheduled to begin at the end of May. This is a positive development for UB, but we are taking a "wait and see" approach to the news.

After two separate campus investigations, a secretly recorded conversation, numerous motions, petitions, and accusations brimming of bribery and slander, the Student Association election scandal of 2005 is over. And sadly enough, we are no closer to knowing the truth today than when it all began.

The uproar over a White House decision to allow the passage of a UAE port deal is pure hypocrisy from our politicians. The nation's lifeblood is controlled and dominated by corporate interests; the port deal only highlights the process.

When Vice President Dick Cheney peppered his buddy Harry Whittington with birdshot last week, the news cycle surrounding the White House at the time wasn't flattering. In fact, it was the best thing that could have happened for the Bush administration. That's because the resulting media frenzy heaped upon Cheney's accident pushed far more damaging stories off the nation's collective radar.
