Tuesday's and Wednesday's political arena was charged. Equipped with colorful balloons and t-shirts, candidates and volunteers alike filled the corners of the Student Union, handing out flyers with their slogans and giving a moment of their time to every passerby.
The Spectrum has given all the parties running in this year's SA election a chance to send out a last word to the student body. For that we'd like to thank them.

On Sunday, with the reversal of Sen. Charles Schumer's stance on same-sex marriage, gay and lesbian rights have pieces falling into place for obtaining equal rights. Previously, Schumer had been an opponent of homosexual marriage, voting in favor of the Defense of Marriage Act in 1996. The act states that the federal government cannot recognize same-sex marriages.
After a closed meeting with all of the candidates for this week's Student Association elections, The Spectrum voted by a closed paper ballot to endorse The Student Party in its entirety.
Originally the term 'dog soldiers' was a good thing, referring to a formidable military elite in the Cheyenne nation. Since then the term has become more degrading, to be applied to strong, competent soldiers who nonetheless were treated like dogs and as such, fought like dogs.

A Massachusetts legal advocacy group is bringing a lawsuit against the federal government, claiming the denial of federal marriage benefits specifically to gay and lesbian married couples. They state that the federal government's refusal to recognize their marriages is a violation of the constitutional equal protection statutes.
