Looking for another first

After knocking off UConn (0-4) for the first time in 12 years last week, the football team will face another team it has historically had trouble beating. The Bulls (2-2) host Eastern Michigan (1-3, 0-1 Mid-American Conference) in Saturday's homecoming game.

Are you not entertained?

When Beau Bachtelle was a little boy growing up in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains, he liked to pretend he was a gladiator. He would wake up on Saturday mornings and, with nothing else to do, he would explore the 16-acre property upon which he grew up. "I used to be really into exploring and stuff when I was a kid," Bachtelle said.

Gridiron Report Card

Passsing Game: B+ The Good: Sophomore quarterback Joe Licata had three touchdown passes, a career-high, and spread the ball around with four receivers having at least two receptions. The Bad: Licata threw a forced ball downfield in the third quarter that resulted in an interception, the Bulls' only turnover of the game. Run Game: A- The Good: Senior running back Branden Oliver finally looked like the player we remember from two seasons ago, rushing for 90 yards and a touchdown on 23 carries.

Freshman soccer phenom leads Bulls into future

When Russell Cicerone was a little kid, he played a game with his older sister Anina. To see who had the hardest shot, his dad, David, would play goalie in the net in their backyard and both Cicerone and Anina would kick the ball as hard as they could at their father.

One-two punch

For the last two seasons, the Bulls' running game has been the foundation of the offense behind senior running back Branden Oliver.

Perfection in jeopardy

Through 10 games this season, the women's volleyball team has been near perfect. The Bulls have lost just two sets (30-2) and are a program-best 10-0 overall. Statistically, this has been the best women's volleyball team UB has ever had. Despite the Bulls' historic start, they failed to receive any votes for the NCAA's top 25 rankings.

"For Lee, well-deserved recognition"

I sat next to senior wide receiver Fred Lee as he sobbed tears of joy Tuesday afternoon. It brought me back to February of this year, the first conversation I had ever had with Lee. He was sitting in The Spectrum's office and telling me about his goal to become a motivator.

How to attend a Bills game without breaking the bank

Let's face it: We are all poor college kids. Although summer just ended, and some of us may think differently, the consistent paychecks are over. It's budgeting season. At the same time, we're in Buffalo, and attending Bills games are a part of the culture here.
