???A little over a month ago, President Barack Obama was inaugurated into the White House largely thanks to the efforts of voters between the ages of 18 to 25. That same demographic is maintaining the same sense of activism on a local scale, with over five potential Student Association presidential candidates organizing to run at the end of this month.

It would be misleading to call George Iknadosian a gunrunner, per se. The Arizona man didn't actually run the guns; he just sold them to ghost-buyers for Mexican drug cartels - in large quantities, with fraudulent documentation and for an unknown-but-likely long period of time.

It would be interesting to gauge the feelings of the youth movement that elected Barack Obama to the presidency. Once one cut through the veneer of happy daze, 'we did it we're the best generation ev-ar,' would one find any misgivings?

Falling in line with those who wear backwards hats, your SA representatives have decided to ban The Spectrum's Senior Arts Editor John Ranic and Senior Photo Editor Bryan Engelmann from the upcoming comedy series, also implying that future events are on their way.

Rupert Murdoch, CEO of News Corporation and owner of the New York Post, has publicly apologized for a controversial cartoon printed in the Post last week. It sure was nice of him, but we've heard these conciliatory words for racism before, so it's hard to be shocked by this move.

It could be said that those little mesh bags that Wegmans has been selling are the best money-making scheme since pre-sliced bread. They supposedly save the environment, so it's hard to not get guilted into buying one under the auspices of 'doing one's part.' That being said, you will see that same person the next week walking into the checkout line with a cart of food saying, "Shoot, I forgot my bags." Do they buy more? Do they suck it up and take the plastic? Wegmans doesn't care. They got paid either way.

Even in a financial crisis, millions of Americans need to pay for the chance to get financial aid. Most college students are familiar with this mind-numbing form known as FAFSA, the Free Application for Federal Student Aid.

I was eager to read The Spectrum's housing addition a few weeks ago, since both the North and South campuses were included in the reviews. It was refreshing to read students' comments regarding the negative aspects of living on South Campus (both on- and off-campus). Yes, those of us who choose to live in University Heights are taking a dangerous step, but many students do not have the type of income required to live elsewhere. Also, many students do not choose to live in the heights area, but are placed to live in the dorms on South campus. As a student that has lived in Spaulding Quadrangle, Red Jacket Quadrangle, Clement Hall, two different houses in University Heights, an apartment in Tonawanda near Sweethome, I have observed drastic differences between the two campuses (and have had ample experience in judging these differences). While most of these idiosyncrasies are attributable to being situated in different towns boasting very different communities, I am appalled that there is not more being done on the half of the University in attempt to equalize these two campuses.

Cultural lines have begun to blur left and right with the expanding global population. The result is a whole new host of problems stemming from the attempt to eliminate disagreement.

???While most everyone mourns the loss of those lost in the crash of Flight 3407, some have taken the tragedy and decided to use it as a platform for speaking their vision of "morality." These people are the members of the Westboro Baptist Church; the same people who claim 9/11 was necessary (God punishing America for enabling homosexuals) and protested Heath Ledger's wake because he portrayed a homosexual onscreen. They are also known for protesting the funerals of members of the armed forces killed overseas.

???Some have mused that Western New York may be slightly recession-proof, seeing as the area has been in a pseudo-recession for half of a century. And while that's an endearing thought, it may be as true as the majority of last year's financial analytical reports.

The stimulus is a go. House and Senate leaders agreed Wednesday to a definitive iteration of the 'one plan to lead them all' that, while pared down, is still a huge honkin' pile of money and opportunity.

More than any other religious organization in history, the Catholic Church seems to revel in applying bureaucracy to God. The church has always had a variety of reasons for this, which range from vaguely spiritual to overt lip service, but the fact remains that no other organization in history has put more steps between God and the people.
