The colorful ink flashing from flyers that speckle bulletin boards in the Student Union advertising events, films and open apartments only merit a glance as I’m on the hunt for decent coffee. Endless emails are sent by well-meaning typists and ignored by me in favor of Netflix and a beer.

Salsa’s has left the building and a new Mexican eatery has rolled into its place, bringing boards filled with photos of spices, meats and vegetables that cover the walls of a revamped kitchen.

The final issue of The Spectrum last semester was filled with moving ‘goodbye’ columns from graduating editors or those returning home. I was amazed that nearly every editor said UB was either not where they originally wanted to go or they hated it their first few months here.

Leaning comfortably back in a black leather chair, Buffalo Brad points at a large map hung on the wall opposite the single large window in the small office.

When summer comes to a close, these are the things we long for.

Money can assuage the material problems we encounter in day-to-day life, like paying rent, filling our car up with gas or buying groceries for the week, but it most certainly cannot help with our relationships or become something meaningful we devote our lives to.

May has arrived, and that means we're honing in on the last couple of days of classes, papers and exams. I remember when the school nurse in my elementary school pronounced my last name as 'ya-nin-ski.' I remember hating pierogies the first time I encountered the tiny pockets of dough, fried in butter and covered with onions.

If you've been keeping up with 'Around Town' for the past two weeks, you might've realized that on just about every Friday of the month, a major museum in Buffalo is open to the public for free - perfect for us college kids on college budgets.

Style is an indefinable and intangible expression of who you are - it's how you walk and talk, what you read, what music you listen to, what you eat and what you love.

As the nine-piece group went silent for a moment, uncertain whether the performance of Steve McCaffery's poem "Carnival" had finished, a chuckle rose through the audience and was echoed by the performers on stage. They bowed and the audience clapped hard through their smiles and light laughter.

It's 9:05 a.m. and your alarm has been going off for at least an hour. You roll over, open the curtains and ... it's pouring. You stayed up into the wee hours of the night finishing a paper, and all you want is a sunny day spent on the beach, or hiking, or just sleeping. How easy would it be to just pull on your Hunters, some black leggings and a hoodie?

The Karpeles Manuscript Library, a repurposed church, housed a world of literature one might not expect to find in Buffalo. Vendors selling everything from self-published poetry books to posters, T-shirts and felt creatures lined the oval floor while shoppers milled about, reading excerpts and learning about the sellers' crafts.
