Students from all over the country were touched by the disaster of Hurricane Katrina, and many decided to take action. Instead of heading to the beaches of Florida and partying from sunset to sunrise, students from UB joined with other colleges and chose an alternative spring break by heading to New Orleans to assist in the aftermath cleanup.

The psychology department at the University at Buffalo is one of the most popular for undergraduate students, with over 1700 enrolled in the major. The department could also be considered one of the more distinguished - as of 2005, the clinical psychology program was ranked fifth in the nation, according to The Chronicle of Higher Education.

English majors agree that there must have been a misleading memo to the world about English majors having the sole career goal of being a teacher. Regardless, Dr. Cristanne Miller Ph.D., the chair of the English Department, fell in love with teaching English over 25 years ago and comes from a family line of teachers. She is also a strong supporter of the English major because of the extensive career opportunities and skills it provides.
