After a 6-6 season that saw the Bulls win their third bowl game in four seasons, UB announced multiple coaching changes last week. Here’s a look at the new hires:
Men’s basketball (11-12, 5-5 MAC) defeated a reeling Western Michigan (6-17, 2-8 MAC) squad Saturday afternoon, who have now lost six straight games. The win keeps the Bulls in the top eight in the Mid-American Conference standings (currently sixth), which would be enough to qualify for the MAC Tournament next month in Cleveland.
UB men’s basketball dropped to 10-12 (4-5 MAC) with a 81-64 home loss to Akron (16-6, 8-1 MAC) on Tuesday night. The Bulls haven’t lost more than 12 games since the 2016-17 season, when the team went 17-15 (11-7 MAC). UB has nine regular season games remaining in 2023.
Men’s basketball (4-4) stole the show Saturday afternoon at Alumni Arena, handling Western New York rival St. Bonaventure (5-3) 83-66. In a season that has been anything but smooth for UB, the win brings the Bulls back to .500 heading into the holiday stretch.
The Bulls kicked off the 2022-23 season with a win Monday night, beating the Colgate Raiders, 88-87, at Alumni Arena. Despite poor free-throw shooting and foul trouble, UB was able to emerge victorious against a quality Colgate team that made it to the NCAA tournament last season.
Things looked bleak for the Bulls Saturday afternoon as they headed into the fourth quarter down 17 to the MAC West leading Toledo Rockets (5-3, 3-1 MAC). Sporting their newly unveiled throwback helmets on a warm and sunny fall afternoon, UB (5-3, 4-0 MAC) was struggling mightily on offense through three quarters. But with possession of the ball in Toledo territory to start the final quarter, there was no panic for the Bulls.
UB women’s soccer (11-1-3, 5-0-3 MAC) continues to find ways to avoid losing in conference play. The Bulls defeated Northern Illinois, 1-0, at home last Thursday night and finished with a 0-0 draw at Bowling Green on Sunday. The team has yet to lose a MAC conference game and now owns a 12-game unbeaten streak, the second-best mark in program history.
The Bulls (3-3, 3-0 MAC) emerged victorious once again this week, easily defeating the Bowling Green Falcons (2-4, 1-1 MAC) 38-7 at Doyt Perry Stadium Saturday afternoon.
Women’s soccer won in convincing fashion once again Sunday afternoon, as the Bulls beat Ohio, 3-0, to improve to 8-1 on the season and 2-0 in Mid-American Conference play. Sunday’s win marked not only UB’s sixth win in a row but its sixth straight shutout. The Bulls haven’t allowed a goal since Aug. 28 against then-No. 3 ranked Rutgers.
For the first time in the better part of the last decade, UB men’s hoops finds itself at a crossroads. Gone are the days of sky-high expectations and steamrolling the conference schedule en route to MAC championships and NCAA Tournament berths. Those glory days (2015-2019) were led by current Alabama head coach Nate Oats.
