UB has an intense and complicated six-year process for professors looking to obtain tenure. As complicated as the process may be, it's still questionable if tenure is as beneficial to students looking for a good education as it is to teachers seeking job security.

When the time comes for UB students to spread their wings and find off-campus living arrangements, many find themselves landing in the University Heights. Over 3,000 UB students live in the Heights, and although it has the reputation of having more partying and higher crime rates than other housing options, it is an area that suits a wide variety of students.

My last semester as a UB undergrad is finally here. Throughout the almost-four years of which I have been here, I have seen a lot of changes in the campus and the people. Unfortunately, one of the things I have not seen changed is the annual catastrophe created in the parking lots during the winter months.

However, Robert Knopf, Ph.D., of UB's theatre and dance department, is just that phenomenon, most likely because of his easy-spirited life motto.

With the University at Buffalo's undergraduate population at almost 19,000 students, first year and transfer students coming to UB for the first time can feel overwhelmed at the size of the campus and the sea of students flooding the Academic Spine during the opening week of classes. At a large research university such as UB, it is easy to step foot on campus and feel like only a number.

The not-so-wonderful time of the year when millions of college students stress about finals has jingled into motion. With the semester at its end, many are looking forward to getting rid of their textbooks to earn some extra cash as they begin their winter break. Students have a lot of options when it comes to selling back their books, and with careful considerations, students can get a little more dough for their old texts.

Students who hear loud, rhythmic drumming in the Student Union definitely won't confuse the beats with any marching band. The Korean Folk Art Club (KFAC), which branched off from the Korean Student Association (KSA), offers students the opportunity to continue the traditions of their home country here at UB.

Brennan's Bowery Bar and Restaurant, located in Clarence Plaza near Main Street and Transit Road, is quickly becoming a weekend hot spot for UB students. Serving up authentic Irish meals, coupled with the tradition of Irish drinking, the atmosphere of Brennan's draws a nearly full house every night and an even larger crowd for the Friday and Saturday night party scene.

Black Friday: the busiest shopping day of the year, bringing out the best sales and the worst in people. Traditionally, millions of holiday shoppers nationwide head out during the early post-Thanksgiving morning to kick off their holiday shopping. With some careful planning, student bargain hunters can make their day on the town enjoyable and as stress-free as standing in line for an hour or two can be.
