UB head coach Felisha Legette-Jack announced in a tweet Wednesday afternoon that redshirt senior forward Summer Hemphill will return to Buffalo for her final year of eligibility.

The NCAA granted an extra year of eligibility for Division I athletes who participated in winter sports in October, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This will be Hemphill’s sixth and final season wearing the blue and white.

After missing the entire 2019-20 season due to a knee injury, Hemphill returned to action at the end of the season and appeared in seven games for the Bulls. She played in the final four games of the season, averaging 8.1 points and 5.7 rebounds per game.

Hemphill’s last hurrah will only further UB’s dominance inside the paint, which already includes junior Adebola Adeyeye, sophomore Elea Gaba and junior Zena Elias. The Bulls ranked 14th in the nation with 43.17 rebounds per game and averaged 16.1 offensive boards per contest. The powerful guard tandem of sophomore Dyaisha Fair and freshman Cheyenne McEvans will return as well, preserving the team’s chemistry for the 2021-22 campaign.

Women’s basketball will look to make up for its tough loss in the Mid-American Conference semifinals to Bowling Green. With Hemphill returning to full health, the Bulls may be able to take that step.
