“Beerbongs & Bentleys” rapper Post Malone received the most votes in the Student Association’s Spring Fest survey this year.
Hip-hop and rap dominated the student poll. Roughly 1,000 students took part in the survey, according to the undergraduate Student Association.
Hip-hop garnered 27.32 percent of student votes, while rap received 21.44 percent of student votes, according to SA Entertainment Director Marc Rosenblitt. Other popular genres were pop and R&B, which got 15.45 percent and 13.91 percent of votes, respectively. Rock earned 7.58 percent of votes, electronic earned 5.88 percent and country earned 3.24 percent.
SA President Gunnar Haberl told The Spectrum that Spring Fest will have a hip-hop and rap-dominated lineup.
Rap acts like Travis Scott (32 votes) and Post Malone (55 votes) were among popular student choices for the fest. Others like Lil Baby (55 votes) and Khalid (26 votes) received votes.
Lil Baby is best known for hits like “Yes Indeed” and “Drip Too Hard,” which both earned top-10 positions on the Billboard Hot 100. Post Malone comes off an impressive 2018, with “Beerbongs & Bentleys” topping the Billboard 200 and earning a Grammy nomination for Album of the Year. Post Malone remained popular among students’ second choice as well, garnering another 28 votes. Lil Baby also gained traction in the second-choice category with 40 additional votes. Other popular choices in the second-choice category were Juice WRLD (18 votes), Gunna (23 votes) and Drake (24 votes).
Student recommendations extended to the impossible and improbable. Freddie Mercury received one vote, as did Led Zeppelin.
The survey also polled students on their choice for the SA Comedy Series, with the SA-selected John Mulaney (89 votes) coming second only to Kevin Hart (91 votes). Other popular choices were Hasan Minhaj (44) and both Gabriel Iglesias and Joe Rogan with 22 votes.
Spring Fest is set for May 4, with acts yet to be announced.
