UB Heroes of the Storm team prepares for Heroic Four tournament

LOS ANGELES -- Allen “FantaFiction” Hu, started playing Blizzard Entertainment’s popular video game, Heroes of the Storm six months ago for fun. Now, he and his teammates are two victories away from winning over $500,000.

Hu, a sophomore accounting major, and his four teammates are competing this weekend in Blizzard’s Heroes of the Dorm competition, the March Madness equivalent of collegiate esports. Over 1,000 students comprising over 300 teams competed for the top 64 spots during the tournament’s regular season. The top 64 teams then played best-of-three matches to advance up the bracket.

Bulls trying for the big leagues

Three former Bulls were recently invited to an NFL minicamp, while former defensive end Derome Harris signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Former Bulls safety Tim Roberts earned an invitation to attend Washington’s rookie camp.

Spring check-in: Men’s basketball

Buffalo men’s basketball has never been better, with a third Mid-American Conference Championship in four years, five All-MAC players, MAC coach of the year, MAC sixth man of the year and its first-ever NCAA Tournament win.

“We’re trying to make our ceiling, our new floor,” said junior guard CJ Massinburg, after the No. 13 seed Bulls broke brackets across the country defeating the No. 4 seed Arizona.

With 10 players returning and the highest rated recruiting class in program history, the Bulls are on track to do just that.

The Bulls will start next season in unknown territory for the program as a nationally ranked team.

Coming off the two biggest wins in program history this past March at the NCAA Tournament, Buffalo is hoping to build with the upcoming recruiting class.

Enes Kanter speaks at 2018 Muslim Student Association Banquet

Knicks center Enes Kanter uses his NBA platform to do more than play basketball.

He speaks against political leaders, such as Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan for his actions as leader of Kanter’s native country.

At the Muslim Student Association’s annual banquet on Saturday, Kanter discussed his NBA experiences in relation to being Muslim and why his faith is so important to him.

Kanter advocates for human rights and free speech, despite being labeled as a dangerous figure in Turkey.
