Kevin Spacey rounds out UB's Distinguished Speakers Series

On Wednesday night, Spacey took the stage at Alumni Arena as the sixth and final participant of this year’s UB Distinguished Speaker Series in front of a packed crowd to discuss a wide range of topics. He discussed the origins of his acclaimed Netflix series “House of Cards,” his opinion of what it takes to tell a story and his belief that virtual reality will help transform the world.


UB student Madelaine Britt wins Truman Scholarship

Britt, a junior environmental design and political science major, is one of the 54 students who were selected from 200 finalists to receive the scholarship. Britt will receive $30,000 toward her graduate school education and will also travel to Washington D.C. next summer to participate in a professional development program.

Eight-year-old dies after fire

After spending a month at Shriner’s Hospital in Cincinnati for severe burns that covered more than 90 percent of her body, eight-year-old Treasure Brighton died Sunday.


UB libraries honor the birth and death of Shakespeare

Barbara Bono, a UB associate English professor, and UB librarians held a Shakespeare Read-A-Thon on April 21 in the Lockwood Memorial Library Lobby to honor Shakespeare’s 400th anniversary of his birth and death. UB students and professors read out some of Shakespeare’s most iconic works in honor of the anniversary.


Hillel of Buffalo host traditional Jewish Passover Seder

Hillel of Buffalo kicked off Passover with two Seder dinners, one on Friday and the other on Saturday night. The dinners were held in Pistachios in the Student Union. The Passover Seder dinner is a Jewish ritualistic feast that marks the start of the Jewish holiday of Passover. Passover is a holiday that celebrates the Jewish liberation from the Egyptians who enslaved them.


Paul Tesluk named dean of UB School of Management

Paul Tesluk has been named the dean of UB’s School of Management after a lengthy international dean search. Tesluk has served as the interim dean of the School of Management since 2015. Former School of Management Dean Arjang A. Assad stepped down from the position in April 2015.


Spring Fest 2016 to be held inside Alumni Arena

The Chainsmokers, Mac Miller, Icona Pop and Coleman Hell were originally suppose to perform outdoors at Baird Point, but will now perform inside Alumni Arena. Since Alumni Arena is a smaller venue, UB's Student Association stopped selling general public tickets last week so students have a chance to attend the concert.


UB Goodyear Hall marked with vandalism

University Police are currently investigating vandalism in Goodyear Hall that will exceed $10,000 in repairs.

Campus Living sent out an email to residents living in South Campus’ Goodyear Hall on April 15 stating that lights, ceiling tiles, windows and furniture that is “no longer usable” have been vandalized. The email stated a monetary amount is likely to be charged to each Goodyear Hall resident’s bill if no students come forward.
