When I think of intersectionality it is, you know, a very unwieldy word— it’s not an accessible word, it’s very jargony. But it is the idea that we’re not just women. We inhabit multiple identities, so we need to think not only of our womanhood, but the reality that not all women are created equal and not all women have the same experiences. 


Roxane Gay speaks at UB Distinguished Speaker Series

Gay spoke as part of UB’s Distinguished Speaker Series at the Center for the Arts Thursday evening. Gay, a Feminist author and commentator, discussed her feminism, free speech, books and politics. Gay’s laid-back demeanor made her speech feel more like an intimate conversation between old friends rather than a formal academic presentation.


UB students react to New York State free tuition plan

Matt Rivera almost dropped out of UB after his freshman year because tuition was too expensive.

Rivera, Student Association president, has struggled with college tuition fees and is excited amongst other students about the tuition-free legislation that Albany lawmakers approved this past weekend. Governor Andrew Cuomo introduced the Excelsior Scholarship in January that states students who are enrolled at a four-year State of New York college and whose families earn no more than $100,000 a year may be eligible.

UB announces new format for DIFCON series

UB’s Spring 2017 DIFCON series will have a different format than year’s past.

The series will take place from April 17-21 and will ask participants to own their differences and introduce a new debate-style format to address controversial topics influencing the nation.


Carl Paladino gives speech to UB College Republicans

Carl Paladino thinks if people do not like him, they should “turn off the TV and go for a walk.”

The Buffalo School Board member and former chair of President Donald Trump’s New York campaign addressed 60 students in 106 Knox Hall on Monday night. Halfway through his speech, roughly 15 students interrupted the speech in protest.

Aviva Abramovsky appointed dean of UB Law School

Aviva Abramovsky has been named dean of UB's School of Law, effective in July, after an international search. Abramovsky will be the first female dean of the law school.

“I do take the historic appointment with all due seriousness and recognize it as the honor it is,” Abramovsky said.
