CSA looks to bring Caribbean culture to UB

UB’s Caribbean Student Association (CSA) has held its annual Caribbean Awareness Week throughout this week, with events to highlight Caribbean culture, educate the UB community and dispel stereotypes.

CSA want more students to be aware of Caribbean culture because of the Caribbean population at UB and the influence the culture has on society.

Makeup mojo

Makeup artistry has been a growing trend over the last couple of years. Simple eyeliner and mascara won’t do anymore and thousands of girls are showing off their skills on Instagram and YouTube. Students at UB vary their makeup depending on where they are going and the amount of time they have to get ready.

Is there such a thing as a ‘best’ major?

UB offers students approximately 100 undergraduate degree programs, from which students pick one or two that ultimately predict their likelihood of employment and success after college. Data at UB shows that the STEM – science, technology, engineering and mathematics – fields are a student’s best bet.

American Horror Story: Hotel is creepy at best

Nothing good ever comes out of scary movies or TV shows that take place in a hotel – just think of Psycho or the prequel TV show Bates Motel. American Horror Story: Hotel, the fifth season of the series premiered on Wednesday, Oct. 7 – and it certainly lived up to its predicted creepy hotel vibe.

Student create Rinse 716 to help spread EDM

Zoe Sparks has loved electronic dance music (EDM) since she was in high school. The graduate student in the School of Social Work has spent many weekends since her first arrival at UB in 2011 for undergrad searching for EDM shows in the area – with little success. Sparks decided to take this problem into her own hands.

UB Spirit Week gives students and families Buffalo pride

Spirit Week is the largest club-oriented weeklong event on campus and led up to the homecoming football game this past Saturday. Events, like a chicken wing eating contest, sumo wrestling and zip lining were held every day on campus throughout the week to create a friendly competition between student clubs to see who possesses the most spirit.

Aish comes to UB

Harsanyi is now the recruitment manager for Aish Buffalo, a Jewish organization that is recognized among eight college campuses. This semester, the organization has been brought to UB’s campus as a way for Jewish students to connect to their heritage away from home in an educational way. Other outlets on campus for Jewish students include the Hillel, which hosts events around Buffalo and the Chabad House of Buffalo, which offers students a Jewish environment away from home.
