OPINION

"Spectrum means family, family means forever"

I didn't like it here at first. In fact, I tried to leave. Before I even finished a semester at UB, I applied to transfer to the Coast Guard Academy. I remember walking around campus thinking, This is the hardest thing I have ever done. I don't know if I was homesick or depressed, but I certainly wasn't happy.

Record donation wraps up strong year of athletics contributions

Though UB Athletics claimed two Mid-American Conference East titles and made a bowl game in 2013-14, perhaps its greatest victory came in the realm of fundraising. April 19, prior to the football team's annual spring game, UB alum and donor Tunney Murchie put an exclamation point on the year, surprising the program by donating $3 million - the biggest donation in school history - toward improvements to the football headquarters at the south end of the West Grandstand of UB Stadium.

Northwestern's unionization may force NCAA to make adjustments

There are two sides to the argument that student-athletes should be paid: those who think an education is enough, and those who think it isn't. The truth is that the argument is much more complex than that, which is why the Northwestern football players' efforts to be unionized are so important. Since the NCAA's inception in 1910, it has been an organization ensuring college athletes are amateurs.

Three steps to the Big Dance

At the men's basketball practice Tuesday afternoon, head coach Bobby Hurley stood silently at center court and watched as ball after ball brushed through the net. It's an appropriate metaphor for Hurley's work with the Bulls this season.
