UB Spirit Week gives students and families Buffalo pride

Spirit Week is the largest club-oriented weeklong event on campus and led up to the homecoming football game this past Saturday. Events, like a chicken wing eating contest, sumo wrestling and zip lining were held every day on campus throughout the week to create a friendly competition between student clubs to see who possesses the most spirit.

Aish comes to UB

Harsanyi is now the recruitment manager for Aish Buffalo, a Jewish organization that is recognized among eight college campuses. This semester, the organization has been brought to UB’s campus as a way for Jewish students to connect to their heritage away from home in an educational way. Other outlets on campus for Jewish students include the Hillel, which hosts events around Buffalo and the Chabad House of Buffalo, which offers students a Jewish environment away from home.

UB Campus Dining & Shops allows students to divulge Buffalo’s cuisine without leaving campus

UB will feature three restaurants from the Buffalo area in all three dining centers – Culinary Crossroads Center (C3), Governors Dining Hall in Governors and Goodyear Dining Hall – on special nights throughout the fall semester: Sun Restaurant, Cantina Loco and Sato Ramen. The program started Tuesday night with Sun Restaurant and will continue for future semesters to come.

‘Super blood moon’ excites UB campus

Super moons are when the moon is in the closet part of its orbit to Earth. On Sunday, the super moon occurred during a lunar eclipse, which is when the moon, the sun and the Earth are in exact alignment. It occurs about twice a year and is what caused the moon to appear red.

UB Humanities helps throw 'Gender Bender'

The UB Humanities Institute partnered with SUNY Buffalo State, Canisius College, SUNY Fredonia and Niagara University to organize the festival. The keynote speaker was author Jill Lepore, who spoke on her book The Secret History of Wonder Woman the night before the festival at the Albright-Knox Art Gallery.

Buffalo Wing Shuttle

Buffalo Wings Service gives UB students chance to explore downtown Buffalo

Buffalo Wings Service launched last weekend, making the shuttle service Buffalo’s first hop-on-and-off entertainment shuttle. The service provides rides with 26 total stops – 13 stops each northbound and southbound – and takes riders to Buffalo’s eight entertainment districts: the University Heights, Hertel Avenue, Elmwood Village, Allentown, Chippewa Street, Pearl Street, Canalside and Buffalo Creek Casino.

A New Sound: Trebel innovates online music sharing

Trebel, a new app that like Spotify and Pandora, allows users to listen to catalogs full of music but is exclusively for college students. With 3,000 colleges and 30,000 high schools in the United States, the app plans to start at large schools and move down into high schools.
