Anyone with a Twitter account should have noticed a hashtag trend last week that had the Internet filled with grief.

And while most of you might be unfamiliar with who Mitch Lucker is, the metal music scene wanted to believe it was just another Twitter hoax.

Lucker, vocalist for metal band Suicide Silence, passed away early Nov. 1 at the young age of 28after a fatal motorcycle accident the night before in California.

I love metal music, but I am far from a hardcore Suicide Silence fan. Regardless, I had a lot of respect for Lucker as a musician and a person just from hearing stories.

My 16-year-old cousin is still numb from the news of his death. She had gone to a Suicide Silence show at Town Ballroom last January and had been lucky enough to meet the vocalist. She told me how sweet Lucker was, and how he even gave her a hug after she confessed to him how star struck she was.

They took a picture together and my cousin told him how perfect he was. Mitch was humble and denied it, even though his music helped her and countless other fans deal with depression and thoughts of suicide.

The outpouring of grief was prominent on Suicide Silence band members' Twitter feeds. All of them had some story to share about how Mitch was a wonderful person to tour with and an inspiration to all of them.

Even Alex Gaskarth, vocalist and guitarist in pop-punk group All Time Low, took 140 characters to pay some respect to the deceased Lucker. Tweets like these prove thatLucker was an inspiration to people outside of his genre, and it comforted me to see this unity.

The two people who I grieve for the most, however, are his wife and his daughter, Kenadee. Lucker loved the 6-year-old. He would take her on stage and instruct the crowd to say hello to her, and there are pictures of her imitating stretches he would do before he went on stage.

Now this little girl has to grow up without a father. While I know this is a reality for many, I could not imagine my life without my dad. He's been there for me to make sure I don't do anything stupid and to threaten any boys that hurt me.

To think of little Kenadee growing up without her father makes this story evenmore tragic.

While the kind words of support have comforted metal fans, some have taken the death of Lucker and turned it into a joke.

Some people say they are glad the world is rid of one more satanic singer and the "emo" kids need to suck it up.

Ironically, fans of British pop boy band One Direction have abused their time on Twitter by saying that if Kenadee missed her father "that badly," she should kill herself, too.

While social media is a gift in many respects, stating that a 6-year-old girl should kill herself is disgusting. The teenagers saying these things have been brought up in a world without respect for other people and it is sickening to see.

Not being a fan of a person's music is not an excuse to disrespect a grieving family.

Mitch Lucker is comparable to Michael Jackson in that he was the king of metal and meant a lot to his fans. Lucker was unique and involved in the music scene for 10 years, affecting many.

While his cause of death is still under investigation, rumors about him being drunk are circulating. Regardless of the cause of death, Lucker, like many other celebrities, should be recognized for his success, not his mistakes.
