An arrest has been made in the murder case of 19-year-old Jacob Herbert, the Clarence resident who was stabbed after a party on Oct. 31 that he was attending turned violent.

Todd Heatley, 28, of Main St. has been arrested and charged with second-degree murder.

Around 4:30 a.m. on Halloween, Herbert, a 2008 graduate of Clarence High School, was fatally stabbed outside of a house on the 100 block of Lisbon Ave.

According to Buffalo Police Spokesman Michael DeGeorge, investigators used a combination of witness accounts, thorough investigation and a UB funded surveillance camera on the corner of Lisbon and Cordova to identify the suspect and make the arrest.

'The video was very helpful in leading the police to an arrest,' DeGeorge said.

The surveillance cameras are proving to be an important part of preventing violence and solving crimes in the Heights. This past May, surveillance tapes helped solve the murder of UB student Javon Jackson.

Sgt. Daniel Rinaldo led the investigation.

Heatley has been arrested and arraigned. A court date has not been set.
