  • Shibboleth: Not easily defined

Art is not easily defined by a single word, phrase or definition; art is multifaceted, diverse and encompasses everything from paintings and sculptures to digital projections and clothing designs – it would be near impossible to condense something so wide-ranging into a single, faithful definition.

The same can be said for the group of 35 graduating seniors from UB’s Department of Visual Studies; these students are as equally multifaceted as the artwork they create. While all of these seniors are art students, they cannot be easily defined or demarcated.

  • lalal Pain & Gain movie review: Painful is putting it mildly

This film is a waste of electricity.

Pain & Gain – director Michael Bay’s first non-Transformers entry since 2005 – is a brainless exercise of barbaric violence and tasteless humor so surreally awful, it must be seen to be believed.

    Kid Cudi: Indicud album review

On April 16, Cudi released his third studio album, Indicud, to very positive critical acclaim. The album features a diverse range of music styles, varying from minimal electro hip- hop to post-R&B auto-tuned radio hits. The results coalesce into a rather strange, but fresh and overall welcomed album.

  • prj A stroke of punk rock genius

It’s the near future and a television show entitled J2 is the most watched show in history. It’s a show that sparks controversy and chaos around the world as it follows Chris, the clone of Jesus Christ.

Cloned and born of a virgin mother, Chris is kept on an island facility that is both his home and the headquarters for the reality TV show based around his life, J2. The show gains record-breaking viewership but is subject to scrutiny and outrage by politicians, scientists and religious followers alike.

Eventually, Chris leaves J2 and starts a punk rock band that becomes a platform for his worldwide rebellion.

The six-part black and white mini-series Punk Rock Jesus, written and drawn by Sean Murphy (American Vampire: Survival of the Fittest), is phenomenal.

Aqueous rocks UB Jam Club’s lecture hall concert

It was a cold and dreary day for a 4/20 celebration. Snow flurried down periodically, and the wind made it uncomfortable to stand outside. The UB Jam Club’s 4/20 Concert, which was originally set to happen hillside in front of Clemens Hall, was relocated to Ellicott Complex’s Fillmore Hall in a last minute turn of events.

That didn’t stop Jam Club bands Heady Yetis, Assortment of Crayons, Rochester-based psychedelic-funk band, Haewa and Buffalo-based funk-jam band Aqueous from putting on the greatest lecture in psychedelic space-funk history.
