Bulls blast through Hillsdale

   After taking care of business at the UB Invitational, the track and field team headed to Hillsdale, Mich., for the Hillsdale Gina Relays. There, the Bulls went up against a variety Division I foes, including several Mid-American Conference rivals.

   For the women, senior jumper Caitlin Godin had a memorable performance in the heptathlon, scoring 4,821 points in the multi-event race. She finished 55 points higher than her closest opponent. The event consisted of 100-meter hurdles, the high jump, shot put, the 200-meter run, long jump, the javelin throw and the 800-meter run.

   Godin won four of the aforementioned heptathlon facets outright, setting season bests in three. In the high jump, she jumped 1.66 meters. At the shot put event, Godin won with a throw of 9.81 meters. She was victorious in the 800-meter run, with a time of 2:24:91. The only race she didn't set a season-best time in was the 100-meter hurdles, but she was still took first place with a time of 14.70 seconds.

   Sophomore athlete Lataya Dixon won the 100-meter race, crushing her previous school record in the process. Her old mark of 14.04 seconds was erased this past weekend as she recorded a time of 13.77 seconds. Dixon also placed in a couple other events, finishing seventh in the high jump at 1.65 meters and sixth in the 100-meter run with a time of 12.11 seconds.

   Buffalo was well represented in the women's triple jump category. Junior jumper Kim Black finished third with a distance of 11.71 meters, narrowly eeking out teammate sophomore jumper Ajla Glavasevic, who jumped a distance of 11.68 meters.

   Senior distance runner Mary Veith ran a season-best time of 4:28:13 in a fifth-place effort in the women's 1500-meter race.

   The men also represented well at the relays. Most impressive was the 4x100-meter relay team finishing second overall. The squad of junior sprinter Dan Schichtel, junior sprinter Ezekiel Porter, junior sprinter Dan Harris, and junior sprinter Brian Smith once again broke their own school record in the event, lowering the record to a time of 40.62 seconds. East Carolina barely won the event with a time of 40.57 seconds.

   Freshman athlete Jordan Addison finished fourth in the men's decathlon. He won the long jump with a distance of 6.28 meters, and tied for first place in the high jump with a height of 1.92 meters.

   Sophomore runner Ryan Bloom won the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 9:31:64, and in the process scoring a season-best time.

   In the men's 1500-meter race, junior distance runner Ryan Zillmann placed fifth with a time of 3:54:71. Zillmann's teammate, senior distance runner Dan Giza, ran the 1500 meters in 3:56.29, earning a seventh-place finish.

   Sophomore distance runner Jacob Hagen took fourth place out of over 100 runners in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 15:14:23.

   Buffalo will travel to Ithaca for the Cornell Outdoor Invitational on May 2.
