Dr. A. Scott Weber, senior vice provost for Academic Affairs, will be appointed vice president of Student Life on Jan. 3.

President Satish Tripathi sent out an email Tuesday morning to UB employees announcing Weber's new position. Weber will be taking former Vice President Dennis Black's position after his sudden departure from UB in July 2016. The Buffalo News reported Black is under investigation for allegedly mishandling hundreds of thousands of dollars, but the university has not commented on the investigation.

Since Black's departure, Laura Hubbard, vice president for Finance and Administration, has taken over his duties. Tripathi thanked Hubbard in the email.

"Through his leadership and vision as a university administrator, Scott has demonstrated a deep commitment to UB and to ensuring that we provide all of our students with experiences that will enrich their education and add value and meaning to their lives after they graduate," Tripathi said in the email.

Weber was named vice provost and dean of Undergraduate Education in 2010 and was later promoted to senior vice provost for Academic Affairs.

As vice president of Student Life, Weber will oversee Campus Dining and Shops, Student Unions, Career Services, Student Health Services, Veteran Services and Orientation and more.
