UB will allow students to return to their on-campus housing early due to a national weather advisory for the Northeast.

All on-campus dorms and apartments were not supposed to open until Sunday, but will now open Friday at 9 a.m. to accommodate students traveling from the New York City and metropolitan area, where Winter Storm Jonas is expected to hit Friday. The storm will impact other parts of the east coast as well. Thirty-three percent of UB students are from the New York City and metropolitan area, according to SUNY data from 2013-14.

The Weather Channel’s forecast has the New York City area being hit with blizzard-like conditions as well as 5 to 8 inches of snow.

The storm is not expected to hit Buffalo and the Western New York region.

Classes for the spring semester begin Monday.
